Music Online
One of the best aspects of the web is how easy it makes it to find music,
especially obscure music that you wouldn't find in stores. I'm a fan of
progressive-rock in the vein of Yes, Genesis, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull,
Marillion, etc.. I also enjoy many more obscure bands such as Anglagard,
Anekdoten and more that I only found
through the internet (mailing lists, usenet and web sites). Here
are some links to help you find the music you're looking for. If you
have suggestions, email them to schew@interzone.com.
I decided to try out the
amazon.com associates program (where I get a commission
on CDs (or other items) that you buy through my web page).
You can search for a movie at amazon here:

Good Starting Points
- The Ultimate Band List --
One of the most complete band sites around for all kinds of music.
- The CD Database -- If you
need to find what songs are on an album, go here. It is the largest
CD datavase in the world and is used by programs such as
MusicMatch to look up
song titles of CDs that you play in your computer.
- The Gibraltar Encyclopedia of
Rock -- Loking for information on an obscure progressive rock band?
This would be a good place to start.
- The Dutch Progressive
Rock Page -- A nice resource for all kinds of prog-rock (not just
Dutch) with many reviews and audio samples too.
Music Stores Online
- PriceScan allows you to find the
best prices for a particular album online. It will do comparisons between
prices at various online music stores. Keep in mind that you'll also have
to pay shipping costs which vary between stores. Also, PriceScan doesn't
search all stores.
-
Amazon.com has a very large selection of CDs and includes short audio
samples for many of them. It's a nice place to try out a song or two from
a new CD.
- Buy.com has a good selection, some
excellent prices and audio samples.
- CDNow also has a good selection,
discounted prices and audio samples.
- The Laser's Edge is one of the
better prog-rock stores online. It offers a great selection of hard-to-find
progressive rock.
- Of Sound Mind -- Another place to
find obscure prog-rock.
